Sustainability Rating and Indices

With our long-standing commitment to placing sustainability at the heart of our business strategy, we at VakıfBank are constantly striving to improve our ESG performance. To us, being a sustainable bank is not merely a label, but a set of values we create for our entire stakeholder ecosystem.

In this new era where credible sustainability indicators are an integral part of investment decisions, disclosure and transparency underpin engagement with the investment community. In this context, analyses by ESG rating agencies and inclusion in sustainability indices provide a strategic tool to communicate and continuously improve our ESG performance.

We were first included in the BIST Sustainability Index in 2014, and since then we have been a constituent of several leading sustainability indices. As we take the necessary steps for a more sustainable future, we are committed to continuing our inclusion in these indices and to improving our ESG ratings, which reflect how sustainability is embedded in our corporate strategy.

ESG Ratings

Since 2015, we have been reporting our climate change strategy, risks, and performance to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). In the 2024 CDP assessments, we maintained our ‘A’ score in the Climate Change Program and raised our score by one level to ‘A’ in the Water Security Program. Thus, by being included in CDP’s 2024 Global A List for both programs, we continued to be one of the highest-rated Turkish participating banks in 2024.

Sustainability Indices

Since its launch in 2014, we have been a constituent of the BIST Sustainability Index.

The index includes Türkiye’s most sustainable companies based on financial, environmental, social, and corporate governance performance as selected by the Borsa Istanbul.

Since 2017, we have been listed on the FTSE4Good Emerging Markets Index which selects companies that meet globally recognized corporate responsibility standards. FTSE4Good is particularly followed by responsible investors.

In 2020, VakıfBank, having strong practices and initiatives empowering women both socially and economically, was included in the 2020 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI). Thus, on the first year of our reporting, we became one of the two Turkish banks being selected in this index among 325 companies worldwide. The Bloomberg GEI conducts the most comprehensive research worldwide to measure the performance of companies that commits to gender equality. As VakıfBank, we maintain our continuity in the index in 2023 by being included in the index four years in a row.

In 2019, to further strengthen our sustainable banking identity on global platforms, we have voluntarily participated in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index survey together with 175 companies who reported out of 248 companies invited. We have been responding to the S&P Global CSA survey every year since 2021, continuously improving our score.
